Projects : Global Inspection System (GIS)

Dynamic Power Technologies (DPT) was tasked to provide major OEM with electrical engineering services for a second generation Global Inspection System (GIS). This task included designing and specifying wiring harnesses, electrical schematics and any other items needed to tie the components together and create the desired functions of the machine, which included added components for extra motion required for the second generation unit.

The GIS is a project to capture condition data on gas turbine blades via a camera technology developed at the OEM’s Research center. A blade is installed on the turn table and the camera images the part. Illumination is provided by a high intensity projector and ultraviolet lights. Software generates a file (point cloud) that contains position (in 3D) and color data. From five to fifteen scans are needed to capture the image of the part, with various rotations and translations required.
